The fabric our clothing is made from links directly not just to the environment but to our bods. Hello! our skin is our biggest organ and do we really want to be putting chemical filled fabrics all over it? Natural fibres are the go-to, and organic where possible (this means no harmful or synthetic chemicals, pesticides or herbicides). Our intimates collection is produced with GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) cotton free of toxic chemicals that are often used in cotton production.
#2 Avoid Landfill
The fashion industry is one of the worlds most polluting, with a demand from consumers for fashion retailers to create 52 seasons in a year makes it pretty obvious why. In Australia we buy on average 27 kilograms of clothing a year with minimal wear on each, generating 6000kg of fashion waste in landfill every 10 minutes.
Invest in your wardrobe, avoid unnecessary charity donations (although it feels like the moral thing to do, regularly donating unwanted clothes to charity is unsustainable, a large percentage of clothing that is donated doesn’t meet the quality standards to be sold here is shipped overseas, turned into rags, or sent to landfill),practice #30wears and learn to mend – it’s an empowering skill to be able to fix your own clothes.
#3 Shop Sustainable
There are many things that determine how sustainable an item of clothing is… where was the clothing made? How many of the items were produced? What is its carbon footprint? What materials were used?
Look good, while you do good and work towards better purchases by supporting brands that are producing ethical and sustainable clothing options.

#3 Consume Less
The first step towards a sustainable wardrobe is to consume less, not only will a minimalist approach positively affect your wallet it will reduce your impact on the environment. Extending the life of a piece of clothing by a further 9 months has been reported to reduce carbon, waste and water footprints by around 20-30% each.* In the words of Vivienne Westwood ‘buy less, choose well, make it last’. Treat your items with care and invest in pieces you have a connection with and invest in good quality items that are designed to last.
